I’ve Been To Dollywood More Than 50 Times – Here’s My Best Advice
Nestled in the heart of Tennesee’s Smoky Mountains, Dollywood draws millions of visitors annually with its unique blend of exhilarating rides, world-class entertainment, Southern charm, and affordable tickets. No wonder it was voted the No. 1 theme park in the United States in Tripadvisor’s 2024 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards, ahead of Disney.
With so much to see and do, making a few missteps along the way is easy. To ensure you get the most out of your visit, here’s a list of the biggest mistakes people make at Dollywood—and how to avoid them.
Missing The Festivals

Dollywood’s five festivals, like the Harvest Festival and Smoky Mountain Christmas, offer new shows, incredible decorations, and tasty seasonal foods. The park transforms anew during each festival, and it is totally worth planning a visit around.
Wearing the Wrong Shoes

Dollywood is bigger and steeper than some people assume, and it’s only getting bigger every year. Take care to wear shoes that will be comfortable while walking all day long. If you’re into roller coasters, skip the flip-flops. Don’t let blisters or lost shoes ruin your day!
Expecting Consistent Weather

The weather in the Smoky Mountains is unpredictable and can change drastically over the course of a single day. Not packing a poncho, extra layer, or sunscreen can leave you drenched, cold, or sunburned. Check the forecast and come to the park prepared for different scenarios.
Skipping A TimeSaver Pass

The TimeSaver Pass is worth the extra cost, especially on busy weekend days. It lets you skip the main line at many popular attractions, including both rides and shows. Using a pass is especially helpful if you’re visiting with kids who struggle with waiting in line.
Overlooking The Shows

Dollywood’s shows are world-class, but many visitors overlook them and focus only on the rides. The park has five indoor theaters and several outdoor and open-air venues showcasing a variety of amazing entertainment. Try to fit a show or two into your day to round out your Dollywood experience.
Not Using Their App

Many visitors forget to download and use the Dollywood app, missing out on real-time updates, ride wait times, and interactive maps. The app can be a game-changer for navigating the park efficiently and making the most of your day.
Leaving Before Dark

Staying in the park until after dark is a totally different vibe. During the hot months, you’ll get a break from the Southern heat and enjoy sparkling fireworks or drone shows. When the weather is cold, enjoy massive displays of not-so-spooky glowing Jack-O-Lanterns or experience the glow of thousands of lights during a Dollywood Christmas.
Only Eating at Grab and Go

Many visitors opt for quick bites on the go—Dollywood has no shortage of delicious snacks—but skipping Dollywood’s full-service restaurants means missing out on delicious Southern cuisine and a chance to relax and take a break during the day.
Aunt Granny’s Restaurant, Granny Ogle’s Ham ‘n’ Beans, and The Front Porch Café are a few of the most popular places to enjoy a meal.
Missing Dollywood Express

The Dollywood Express train ride is a must-do classic Dollywood activity. The authentic 110 coal-fired steam engine takes guests on a 20-minute ride through the park and foothills, and seating is first come, first serve. Check the app for the departure schedule and plan to line up 15-20 minutes before the train leaves the station to ensure you get a seat.
Standing in a Long Line for This Iconic Snack

Dollywood’s world-famous cinnamon bread lives up to the hype. Biting into the warm, soft bread coated in buttery cinnamon sugar is the ultimate Dollywood experience. Share a loaf with your group if you just want a taste.
Avoid the lines at the Grist Mill by picking up a loaf at Showstreet Bakery or down the road from the park at DreamMore Resort’s DM Pantry.

Here’s What It Is Like to Sail on MSC, The World’s Third Largest Cruise Line

More than 35 million travelers will cruise this year, and many of them are sailing with MSC Cruises around the world. Relatively new to the American vacationer, this family-owned line started offering U.S. cruises in 1998 but has become more popular in North America in the past couple of years.
So, this Spring Break, my daughter and I took a 3-night cruise from Cape Canaveral Florida to the Caribbean to see for ourselves why so many Americans are hitting the sea for vacation, and increasingly with MSC Cruises.

I’ve Golfed Since The 70s – Here’s 10 Hidden Gems Courses You Must Know

I started playing golf back in the 70s when I was 15. I eventually joined a golf club in Tucson, Arizona, to hone my skills. But one of the best things about golf is that wherever you are in the world, there are bound to be beautiful golf courses nearby. There’s no better way to spend time surrounded by nature and play your favorite game.
If you’re an accomplished golfer, there are certain golf courses that are most likely on your bucket list. Pebble Beach, Shadow Creek, St Andrews, Kiawah Island. But these lesser-known ten courses are also worth a place on your list and perhaps a trip to play them.
