This Country Named The Best Golf Destination in the World
For the first time in the history of the World Golf Awards, the same place was chosen as both Europe’s Best Golf Destination and the Best Golf Destination in the world. It’s Scotland.
Chosen as the best by golf fans, media, and golf tour companies, is it time to book a trip to The Home of Golf in 2023?
Golf in Scotland – Perfected Over Six Centuries
Scotland has over 550 golf courses, including multiple championship venues and resorts, links courses, and 9-hole courses.
2022 brought the historic 150th Open at St Andrews, The Genesis Scottish Open, The Senior Open Presented by Rolex, Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open, AIG Women’s Open, and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
“Scotland is a bucket list destination for most golfers around the World. It offers a vast range of parkland and links options across all its regions, so the traveling golfer really is spoiled for choice,” said Dermot Synnott, Director of Global Partnerships for the World Golf Awards.
“Every year, we welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors eager to play our great golf courses and relax in our accommodation after a day’s golf, enjoying the local produce and visiting nearby attractions,” said Malcolm Roughead, VisitScotland Chief Executive.
“By exploring some of Scotland’s 560 official and iconic courses in 2023, golfers will be walking in the footsteps of some of the world’s greatest players and can perfect their golf swings ahead of 2024 when the 152nd Open is played at Royal Troon Old Course in Ayrshire.”
One of those hundreds of thousands of visitors is Dianne Celuch, co-Founder of CEO of KINONA, an apparel brand made by women golfers for women golfers.
“Scotland is a destination like no other. Rugged, links-style golf, with crazy weather and waves crashing in the background. I played Kingsbarns Golf Links, and the best part was their comfort stations, where they served shots of “scotch” to warm you up. Now, who doesn’t love a good shot of scotch while golfing?!” she said.
