The 10 Best Beaches in the World According to Tripadvisor Reviews
Are you dreaming of a beach vacation? Why not book a trip to one of the best sandy spots in the world? From family-friendly shores to the ultimate romantic locations, these places are the ones travelers love the most.
How This List Was Made
Based on an analysis of the millions of reviews left on Tripadvisor for beaches globally over one year, this list reveals the beaches that were the highest-rated by real people who recently visited.
“As our Travelers’ Choice lists reveal, there’s no one-size-fits-all beach day. The top three beaches are all in Europe, ousting the perennially popular Caribbean from those spots—a sign that some travelers are eager to swap typical resort vacations for the coastlines of Portugal, Italy, and beyond,” shares Sarah Firshein, Head of Editorial at Tripadvisor.
Praia da Falésia – Olhos de Agua, Portugal
Number one in the world for 2024 is Praia da Falésia, set in the heart of the Algarve region of Portugal. This tiny fishing town of Olhos de Agua surrounds a sandy cove lapped by the Atlantic Ocean. What makes it an extraordinary piece of sand is how the sunset bounces off the red, brown, and white cliffs.
Best time to visit: Spring is an excellent time for more affordable prices and fewer crowds.
Spiaggia dei Conigli – Lampedusa, Italy
No rabbits are on this stunning stretch of wild, rocky shores despite its name. Known as a nesting site for sea turtles, keep your distance if you share the beach. In the summer, reservations are required to keep crowds to a minimum, so plan ahead and book a spot.
Best time to visit: The spring generally has the lowest hotel prices. But in the summer, Lampedusa becomes more accessible via direct flights from mainland cities and ferry service from Sicily.
La Concha Beach – San Sebastian – Donostia, Spain
Known for its soft, fine golden sands, this stretch is especially beloved by families. The surrounding mountains protect it from the winds, making it an ideal spot at the shore.
Best time to visit: The spring generally has the lowest hotel prices, and travelers can beat the summer crowds.
Ka’anapali Beach – Maui, Hawaii
This Hawaiian getaway has crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling and surfing against a backdrop of lush mountains. Visitors recommend the daily cliff diving ceremony at Pu’u Keka’a (Black Rock), held on the beach’s northern end at sunset.
Many don’t know that Hawaiʻi was once governed as a monarchy with Kings and Queens. When they wanted to go to the beach, they often chose Kaanapali for its stunning beauty and miles of beaches. Once you’ve been here, you’ll see why it was the location of the island’s first master-planned resort area. In 1962, The Royal Lahaina Resort opened on 27 acres of beachfront property, and over the years, more top resorts have followed their lead.
Best time to visit: It’s always a good time to visit Maui. The most affordable hotel prices are in the fall, but winter brings unbelievable whale watching – even from the beach’s shores.
Grace Bay Beach – Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos
This three-mile stretch of beach on the island of Providenciales is considered the hallmark of Turks and Caicos. With clean turquoise water and soft white sand, absent of rocks, seaweed, or pollution, it’s that perfect beach travelers imagine. Beloved by families, the water is calm thanks to an offshore barrier reed that protects the shore from ocean swells.
Best time to visit: Not only does summer bring blue skies, white clouds, and shimmering water, but hotel prices are generally the lowest from June through August.
Anse Lazio – Praslin Island, Seychelles
This island in the middle of the Indian Ocean features stunning beach after stunning beach. But Anse Lazio is known as the best of the best. One of the few sandy spots without a coral reef, it’s great for swimming, and the oversized granite boulders make you feel like you’re a world away from everyday life.
Best time to visit: Between April and May or October and November have calmer, less windy weather.
Manly Beach – Sydney, Australia
No car in Sydney? No problem! Take a ferry for a day at one of Australia’s most iconic beaches. This famous surfing spot also features a tree-lined promenade with beachside cafés, bars and restaurants. If you’ve forgotten something for your day out, it’s easy to grab it from one of the shops.
Best time to visit: Comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds in Sydney come between March and May or September and November — which means better airfare prices, too. But January is another excellent time for those who want to warm up with the masses from winter back home.
Eagle Beach – Palm-Eagle Beach, Aruba
Voted the top beach in the Caribbean, see for yourself why this widest stretch of sand on the island is a favorite of travelers. Famous for its iconic fofoti trees, come for a picture, but stay for the water sports or lounge the day away under a shady hut.
Best time to visit: With its location south of hurricane zones, there is never a bad time to visit Aruba, but going in the winter is lovely. The showers are usually short, while there is a slightly rainy season from October to January.
Siesta Beach – Siesta Key, Florida
Voted into the number eight spot for its family-friendly atmosphere and beautiful sunshine, this 8-mile-long island is just over the bridge from Sarasota on the west coast of Florida.
Travelers recommend visiting in the Fall for great weather and lower hotel prices.
Varadero Beach – Varadero, Cuba
It’s one of the most popular spots in Cuba for a reason. The powdery sand and turquoise waters of your Caribbean dreams await.
But can Americans travel to Cuba? Americans have traveled here since 2014 thanks to the Support for the Cuban People category of approved travel to Cuba. It can be as easy as booking a ticket and filling out a form at the airport, and then you’re off to explore the island.
