See Inside The First All-New Hotel on St. Thomas in 20 Years: The Pink Palm
Have you looked at St. Thomas resorts before and didn’t find one that tickled you pink? Well, you’re in luck! From the team behind the esteemed American Beech Hotel, Aqua Beach Hotel and Black Llama Bar on the North Fork of Long Island, NY, The Pink Palm is a new boutique hotel located on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and is now fully open.
Do You Remember Smith’s Fancy?
During its years as Smith’s Fancy, the guesthouse was run by husband and wife Ira Harrington Smith and Doris Stevenson Smith, better known as “Stevie.” The couple purchased the property in 1947 after immediately falling in love with it during a trip from New York.
Having come from the fashion world, the Smiths gave the guesthouse a unique and eclectic flair and attracted guests from their industry as well as the Hollywood set and other artists alike. The property’s bar was a lively place in the evening for both guests and residents of the island.
Smith’s Fancy is Now The Pink Palm
Nestled in the hillside of downtown Charlotte Amalie with magnificent views of the city’s historic waterfront harbor, the 27-room hotel is a historic renovation of famed Smith’s Fancy.
The Feel of a Luxe Caribbean Treehouse Resort
The Pink Palm sits on just under an acre of land and features the original architecture of six
buildings of varying elevations connected by outside pathways and stairs. Complete with a pool, hot tub, outdoor showers, restaurant, bar area and communal sitting areas, the lush landscape throughout the property is dedicated to highlighting and cultivating native plant species including the endangered lignum vitae, mango trees, banana trees, bay rum trees and more, creating a Caribbean treehouse feel on the grounds.
You’ll Be Tickled Pink
A color palette of pink, jungle green, white and neutrals play to the hotel’s tropical, art-deco vibe. The sunny pool area features terrazzo tile with a geometric pattern, deep green pool tile, daybeds and lounge chairs, and original archways that lead to a covered outdoor bar.
Enjoy Chef-Lead Breakfast in Your Room and More
The hotel’s restaurant and bar program will be led by Executive Chef Bruce Miller, who has held chef positions in several notable restaurants across Manhattan and the North Fork over the past seven years, including famed Mas Farmhouse.
The hotel is initially offering breakfast baskets delivered to individual rooms and small plates available throughout the day to guests, with full service menus for both guests and the public to come. Both the restaurant and cocktail menus are inspired by local fare, highlighting light, fresh ingredients and incorporating plants grown on-site.
Only 27 Rooms Lends an Exclusive Vibe
Each of the hotel’s 27 guest rooms is unique in layout while featuring consistent design elements. Large windows fill every room with natural light, and varying sizes of outdoor spaces accompanying the vast majority of rooms allow for the perfect sitting areas for morning coffee or pre-dinner refreshments.
Caribbean Design with Surprising Elements
The hotel’s color palette continues throughout the guest rooms, complemented with
pops of patterned tropical wallpaper, rattan and bamboo furniture, and dashes of unexpected velvet. All rooms, from standard to suites, are spacious and feature king-size beds. The bathrooms are complete with terrazzo tile detail, luxury Frette bathrobes and towels, and bath amenities from Ortigia.
A Central, Convenient Location
Located steps away from Charlotte Amalie’s bustling shopping, restaurant and bar scene, about three blocks from the harbor front, and about ten minutes from the St. Thomas airport, The Pink Palm offers a hidden oasis that is tucked away enough to fully unwind and relax, but is convenient enough as a jumping-off-point to enjoy all the beaches, restaurants, shopping and activities St. Thomas and its neighboring islands have to offer.
Immerse Yourself in The Island
The Pink Palm is committed to hiring locally and creating community-driven experiences, which will include tropical garden walks to learn about the island’s native species, events featuring local artists and partnering with local galleries, partnering with local organizations such as the Humane Society of St. Thomas and the St. Thomas Historical Trust, and more.
